The IRR (iThenticate Report & Response) service is an optional service offered by ·è¿ÍÖ±²¥ to journals which use the Editorial Manager system. It assesses submissions for possible problematic textual overlap and provides recommendations to editors about the best course of action. This single-module course provides an overview of the service.

About this course

No editor wishes to damage their journal by publishing content that overlaps with another source. To help editors avoid this, ·è¿ÍÖ±²¥ offers checks on new submissions via the Crossref Similarity Check (powered by iThenticate). On some journals, ·è¿ÍÖ±²¥ also offers an optional extra facility, the IRR service, which helps editors by analysing the Similarity Report and making a recommendation as to how the editor should proceed with a submission. This course explains the service in detail in order to help editors make best use of the report and recommendations, and thus make handling submissions easier.

This module is written for Editors whose journals already use the IRR service, who want to either understand the service better or get the most from it. It may also be useful for those who are considering using the service and want to understand what it offers and how it works. You can take this module at your own pace, and you can leave and return to it at another time.

What will I learn in this course?

This module covers what the IRR service is and how to apply, what is checked and when, where the report is provided within the Editorial Manager system and what it looks like, examples of what the Crossref Similarity Report may look like with corresponding recommendations, the limitations of the service and what the Editor should do with any recommendation as well as FAQs about the service.
